1zu1 Prototypes wins Trio of the Year 2012

Dornbirn, October 30, 2012 – On Monday evening, 1zu1 Prototypen GmbH was honored with Austria’s “Trio of the Year 2012” award. This distinction is awarded to homegrown trade, craft and service companies. 1zu1 impressed the jury with its success as a prototyping pioneer.

Every year since 1993, a top-class jury has selected the three most innovative and successful small and medium-sized enterprises from trade, craft and services as its “Trio of the Year”. The prize is awarded by the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, the business magazine “trend” and Bank Austria. At the 20th presentation of this top-level entrepreneurial prize, the Dornbirn-based company 1zu1 Prototypes was delighted to receive the trophy.

Prototype manufacturer honored in the commercial category
The jury praised the managing directors of 1zu1 Prototypes as pioneers who had dared to take the plunge into self-employment in 1986 – into the then-still-nascent area of rapid prototyping and rapid tooling. The goal of managing directors Hannes Hämmerle and Wolfgang Humml was to have 15 employees within ten years.

16-year success story
They achieved their goal, which had seemed ambitious at the time, and have built on their success story over the past 16 years. “We currently employ 125 people and have an average growth rate of 15 percent per year,” explains Hämmerle. In 2008 the company’s turnover was around seven million euros. In 2012 this will double to 14 million euros.

As the winner in the commercial category, Europe’s leading rapid-prototyping provider ultimately prevailed over the second-placed Leitner group of companies based in Übelbach, and the third-placed Piplan Industrieanlagen, Planungs- und Montage GmbH from Feistritz an der Donau. Economics Minister Reinhold Mitterlehner presented the award to 1zu1 Prototype’s managing directors on Monday evening at Bank Austria in Vienna.

Award serves as confirmation
“The award confirms that we are on the right track in terms of apprentice training and in the areas of social competence and innovative strength.” Both managing directors of 1zu1 Prototypes expressed their delight at receiving this honor. “With this award, we are proud to join the large family of distinguished Vorarlberg-based companies. Because these companies are still successful in the market.”
